A Message From TAMC Chair Chris Moore
Welcome to the Teamsters Aviation Mechanics Coalition (TAMC). The TAMC currently represents 18,500 mechanics and related at ten different airlines, including Air Micronesia, AirTran, Continental Airlines, ExpressJet, Frontier, Horizon Air, NetJets, Piedmont, United Airlines and UPS. Formed in 2007 as a collective voice for Teamster-represented airline mechanics, the goal of the TAMC is to secure the future of aviation mechanics and preserve the integrity of the industry.
To accomplish this, we have set up a steering committing comprised of one mechanic from each of our represented and organizing work groups. Meet the TAMC Steering Committee. The Steering Committee works hand-in-hand with the Teamster Airline Division and the International Union to advance our agenda, which includes organizing aviation mechanics and related workers, fighting outsourcing, reforming pension plans and promoting safety standards, among other things.
We use our collective voice and the power of the Teamsters and the airline division to move our agenda at the highest levels of government and in the court of public opinion. We have a strong presence on Capitol Hill and frequently lobby members of Congress to pass legislation that would halt outsourcing maintenance work to over-seas vendors. In an effort to reverse the trend on outsourcing, we have created the Teamster Outsourcing Defect Report to collect data on faulty repairs performed by third-party maintenance vendors. We use the information collected in these reports when lobbying members of Congress. This report is confidential and can be used by any aviation mechanic in the industry.
This year alone we have begun the work of passing the Moratorium on Foreign Outsourcing, the Express Carrier Employee Protection Act and are actively working with the mechanics at Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Alaska Airlines and FedEx in their effort to become Teamsters.
We have much work ahead of us as we fight to restore our class and craft to what it once was—a respected profession with solid wages, benefits, retirement and job security. This is a fight we will not back down from and one that together we will win.
